Girls Rock Camp Vancouver is a nonprofit society that builds self-esteem in female youth through music creation and performance. Our camp provides a safe and supportive space for young women to form bands, write music, learn to play an instrument, and rock out on stage.
Summer Camp Session 2010
Thank you to everyone who was a part of the second year of Girls Rock Camp Vancouver! Once again, we were inspired by all of the amazing volunteer and camper energy through the week of camp, and at our final Showcase at the Rio Theatre. We also rocked the Under The Volcano Festival for Social Change, meaning our campers got 2 opportunities to perform their original songs in from of a live audience.
We are planning to expand our programming this coming winter to include a workshop series, all-ages shows, and more fundraising events. Please contact info@girlsrockcampvancouver.ca for more info, or if you would like to become part of our community donor base. GRCV is completely volunteer run, and relies on community funding to keep camp accessible to all potential campers. Along with out workshop series, another goal for our fundraising includes expanding camp to 2 sessions next summer, so we won’t have to turn anyone away.
Girls Rock camp Vancouver is held in partnership with the Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA). We thank them for their constant support and kindness.
Please check our Events section for opportunities to meet GRCV organizers, volunteers, and campers.

We are continuing our search for gear donations, and would especially appreciate donations of any of the following:
-guitars (small and simple is generally best)
-amps (guitar, bass, and keyboard)
-vocal mics (SM58’s are perfect)
-effects pedals (we love distortion!)
Other gear is also welcome – please email gear@girlsrockcampvancouver.ca with a brief description of the instrument you would like to donate, and we’ll get back to you soon.
A Quick Description of Camp:
Camp runs from 9am to 4pm each day, with instrument instruction in the morning, lunch (provided), and band practices and workshops in the afternoon. On Day 1, campers will get a chance to meet one another and form bands, who they will practice with throughout the week. By Friday, they will have written a song together and learned the basics of their instruments, and then it’s off to the Showcase on Saturday for the big performance.
All instruments are provided by GRCV. Campers will indicate which instrument they wish to play on their application forms. GRCV cannot provide childcare before or after camp, as our space has been graciously donated by the Urban Native Youth Association, and must be vacated for other programming after camp. Campers must be picked up by 4pm, and all campers who intend to leave early must have a parent’s permission to do so. Please see our camper application for more detailed information.
Rock Camp is held at the Urban Native Youth Association Building, 1618 East Hastings Street (at Commercial Drive). Please DO NOT SEND ANYTHING TO THIS ADDRESS, send to address provided on the application.
The Showcase will be held at the Rio Theatre on Broadway and Commercial on August 7th, 2010. Tickets are open to everyone – more info to come!
