Camp Info:

We are excited to present the second year of Girls Rock Camp Vancouver! The camp is now full for all age groups. Our 2010 day camp will run from Monday, August 2nd to Friday, August 6th, with the final showcase on the evening of Saturday, August 7th. We are excited to present a second performance at Under The Volcano Festival for Social Change on August 8th! Mark your calendars, and check our Events section for opportunities to meet GRCV organizers, volunteers, and campers.

GRCV is completely volunteer run, and is held in partnership with the Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA). 10 camp spaces are saved for Aboriginal, Metis, and Inuit campers.

We are beginning our search for gear donations, and would especially appreciate donations of any of the following:

-guitars (small and simple is generally best)
-amps (guitar, bass, and keyboard)
-vocal mics (SM58’s are perfect)
-effects pedals (we love distortion!)
-XLR cables (new or definitely working)

Other gear is also welcome – please email gear@girlsrockcampvancouver.ca with a brief description of the instrument you would like to donate, and we’ll get back to you soon.

A Quick Description of Camp:

Camp runs from 9am to 4pm each day, with instrument instruction in the morning, lunch (provided), and band practices and workshops in the afternoon. On Day 1, campers will get a chance to meet one another and form bands, who they will practice with throughout the week. By Friday, they will have written a song together and learned the basics of their instruments, and then it’s off to the Showcase on Saturday for the big performance.

All instruments are provided by GRCV. Campers will indicate which instrument they wish to play on their application forms. GRCV cannot provide childcare before or after camp, as our space has been graciously donated by the Urban Native Youth Association, and must be vacated for other programming after camp. Campers must be picked up by 4pm, and all campers who intend to leave early must have a parent’s permission to do so. Please see our camper application for more detailed information.

Rock Camp is held at the Urban Native Youth Association Building, 1618 East Hastings Street (at Commercial Drive). Please DO NOT SEND ANYTHING TO THIS ADDRESS, send to address provided on the application.

The Showcase will be held at the Rio Theatre on Broadway and Commercial on August 7th, 2010. Tickets are open to everyone – more info to come!
